Another great and educational post! I'm pushing 70, and I started learning birdsong by carrying a notepad, jotting down what I thought they sounded like, then came home and listened to the Peterson CD. Although I am dragging my feet with AI, I see where it can be useful--loved the information about how this helps researchers. I would guess I am "intermediate" in the listening department, and this is how I use Merlin--if I hear a song I'm not quite sure of, I will turn on the app--and it is often a "oh, yeah" moment. Still learning warblers. And I can't tell the difference between the Junco and Pine Warbler still. 😊 I will have to pay more attention to errors, although in my use, they don't seem to be numerous. Thank you! The errors are rare in comparison to the accurate answers. I have many oh-yeah moments as well, especially when I am away from home and the non-migratory birds have different "accents."
